What is the Ezekiel Project?

How to make Ezekiel flat bread

Instructions

  1. In a vessel, combine equal portions of wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt/emmer. Avoid filling the vessel more than halfway (the dry ingredients will expand when they absorb water).
  2. Add twice as much water as dry ingredients. Soak overnight. After soaking the mixture for about 8 hours, drain out the water. Rinse and drain again.
  3. Spread the mixture out as much as possible. Cover the vessel with a cloth, screen, or mesh. Allow the air to circulate but protect the mixture from debris and critters. If possible, allow the grains/legumes/seeds to sprout in a warm, dark place for 1 to 3 days. Rinse, drain, and shake 2 times a day (to prevent spoilage). Sprouts are ready when you see the tiny root poking out of the seed and they taste sweet. If at any point they smell bad or look slimy, discard them.
  4. Mash the drained mixture into a paste. If not fully mashed, it will give a crunchy texture to the bread.
  5. Add a small amount of olive oil and salt. Add honey (if desired) and additional water (if needed).
  6. Mix to form a dough (it will be sticky). The dough can be kneaded briefly but avoid overworking the dough (it will not be very stretchy due to the extremely low gluten content). Allow the dough to rest for a short while. It will become less sticky as it absorbs the water. Separate the dough into small, rounded portions. Flatten the rounds with your hands.
  7. Place the flat bread onto a hot surface (e.g. a cast iron skillet or flat rock) heated by the sun or fire/coals. Cook until the outside is firm (but not hard) and the bottom springs back slightly after a gently touch. The inside will be soft but will develop a firmer texture as it cools. The finished flat bread will be firm on the outside and soft on the inside. Flip the bread over as needed.

Important:

Please remember to thank the Lord for His provision and ask Him to bless the food He has provided (in Jesus’ name).

If God has led you to this emergency cache and food is scarce, please join with other followers of Christ and ask the Lord to multiply the ingredients and/or finished bread to feed everyone present that needs to be fed. It is important to pray with fellow believers so that a single human is not glorified: to God be the glory!

19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. (Matthew 14: 19-21)

36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children. (Matthew 15: 36-38)

Also ask the Lord to not allow the food to run out for as long as it is needed (in Jesus’ name). Again, to God be the glory!

14 For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’ (1 Kings 17: 14)

The times ahead may be uncertain but we can always be certain of God’s love. We may not understand God’s plan for us but we can trust that He has a plan and that He will be with us no matter what we face.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8: 28)

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a]the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28: 19-20)
